Here is our last song. It is to the tune of ‘She’ll be coming round the mountain’ however the lyrics are different! Please use the music for your child to sing along to but make sure you use these lyrics:

We are riding ‘cross the desert to our king

We are riding ‘cross the desert to our king

We are riding ‘cross the desert

Riding ‘cross the desert

Riding ‘cross the desert to our king

We are climbing over mountains to our king

We are climbing over mountains to our king

We are climbing over mountains

climbing over mountains

We are climbing over mountains to our king

We are sailing ‘cross the oceans to our king

We are sailing ‘cross the oceans to our king

We are sailing ‘cross the oceans

sailing ‘cross the oceans

We are sailing ‘cross the oceans to our king

We are bringing special presents to our king

We are bringing special presents to our king

We are bringing special presents

Bringing special presents

We are bringing special presents to our king

This is our third song called ‘The Shepherd’s Song’ which is sung to the tune of ‘The Farmer in the Dell’. With this video the children should be starting to sing around 7/8 seconds in.

The shepherds watched their sheep

The shepherds watched their sheep

ee-i- ad-ee- o

the shepherds watched their sheep

The angels brought good news

The angels brought good news

ee-i- ad-ee- o

the angels brought good news

The king is born today

The king is born today

ee-i-ad-ee-o

The king is born today.

Here is our second song – Away in a Manger.

Away in a manger,

No crib for a bed,

The little Lord Jesus,

Lay down his sweet head,

The stars in the bright sky,

Looked down where he laid,

The little Lord Jesus,

Asleep on the hay.

We will sing this twice.

Happy Singing!

Christmas Song – Calypso Carol

Our first song is called ‘Calypso Carol’ and is a little bit trickier.

Here is the video to help you learn the song. We have changed a few of the words so look carefully at the lyrics below to make sure you are learning the correct words. Once we have sung the first two verses we then repeat them.

See him lying on a bed of straw
chilly stable with an open door
Mary cradling the babe she had
The prince of glory is his name.

Oh, now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord appear to men
Just as poor as was the stable then
The prince of glory when he came.

See him lying on a bed of straw
chilly stable with an open door
Mary cradling the babe she had
The prince of glory is his name.

Oh, now carry me to Bethlehem
To see the Lord appear to men
Just as poor as was the stable then
The prince of glory when he came.

See him lying on a bed of straw
chilly stable with an open door
Mary cradling the babe she had
The prince of glory is his name.

Can you re-tell the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt?

Tricky words

2

Posted by trobinson | Posted in General News | Posted on 07-10-2017

This week we have been learning all of our phase 2 tricky words.

Tricky words are words that we cannot sound out using our phonic knowledge – they are words we just need to remember.

We have learnt the following tricky words:

letters and sounds

Please practise these at home!  Can you put any of them into a sentence?

If you are feeling really clever you could have a go at reading some of the sentences on the link below – don’t forget to sound out carefully!

Dear Parents/Carers,

Today your child has been sent home with an overview of our topic ‘Who is down in the woods today?’ This overview is called a ‘Knowledge Organiser’ which is everything that your child must know by the end of our topic.

It has been split up into different sections; maths, topic, writing, reading and Learning Powers. Please ensure that you read through this knowledge organiser and work with your child at home on the different subjects.

This topic we have asked you to practise recognising and ordering numbers 1-20, learn the 2D shapes and their properties and talk about the language of size (small, medium and big). It is very important that your child practises writing their name at home and uses the tripod pencil grip (a diagram has been put on the knowledge organiser for you). There are also some facts and vocabulary about bears to learn.

Yours sincerely

The Reception Team
